About ten years ago, Toyota and Subaru launched the first generation sports car which was developed and designed in collaboration with the two companies. Now in its second generation, the GR86 and BRZ duo are better than ever and it looks like Toyota will be celebrating its anniversary with a special edition model. The information isn’t official yet, although there are strong leads coming from online communities.
Surprisingly, this clue came from Nissan Z . new forum, which found the VIN decoder document that Subaru had sent to the National Highway Transportation Administration. This document was clearly not issued by Toyota, but covers the GR86 2023, which was supposed to receive two anniversary edition models. Equally dubbed 2023 GR86 Premium 10th, it looks like there will be a standard version and an ES version.

Little else is known about the new anniversary edition models, though they will likely be available with a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic transmission. The ES models will likely be equipped with Subaru’s ADAS EyeSight technology, which is currently only available for vehicles with automatic transmissions. Therefore, the 2023 GR86 Premium 10th ES will probably be auto-only.
For now, there’s no information regarding any mechanical upgrades, which likely means the special edition model will only benefit from visual upgrades. If that’s true, the 2.4-liter boxer engine under the hood should be fine for a stock 228 horsepower (170 kilowatts). Subaru will likely miss the anniversary celebrations in the United States, but could launch a special edition model in Japan. However, nothing has been confirmed at this time.
The Premium 10th anniversary edition model will arrive for the 2023 model year. Until then, the 2022 Toyota GR86 is available starting at $27,700 before the mandatory $1,025 processing/shipping fee. Regardless of the trim level you choose, you’ll always get the same 2.4 liter four-pot under the hood.
