We’ve seen lots of spy photos and even some teasers for the significantly updated Hyundai Palisade 2023. The three-row SUV will debut its new look on April 13 at the 2022 New York Auto Show, but it doesn’t look like Hyundai is willing to wait that long. The automaker has a livestream video reveal set up on YouTube, and the preview image pretty much shows the entire rig.
We said more or less because there are few details left to imagination. Things have gotten a little dark on the back, and since this is a front view, we still don’t know about the changes on the back. We believe the new Palisade will adopt a split taillight design similar to the smaller Tucson, connected by a red LED strip running across the rear gate. Heavy camouflage prototypes have been seen with double openings in the covers, but our only evidence of connecting strips is that it is a common design feature with the Tucson.
Obviously, we no longer need to speculate about the new face of the Palisade. The grille incorporates a thin wing at the top that resembles a lighting element, but we don’t know for sure if it’s actually a lamp. The vertically oriented boomerang-shaped running lights are similar to those on the outgoing Palisade, but on the fascia, they are moved to the outside of the headlight cluster. The overall effect is a very square and blunt front clip that certainly bears a family resemblance to the Tucson. But its execution is unique to the Palisade, helping it stand out as Hyundai’s flagship model.
What other changes will occur? Previous spy photos suggest there will be only minor changes to the interior. Similarly, we haven’t heard of anything significant happening with the Palisade’s powertrain options. In the US, it’s a good 3.8-liter V6 for 291 horsepower (217 kilowatts) turning only the front wheels in standard configuration, with all-wheel-drive optional. It’s entirely possible that Hyundai will eventually offer a hybrid version of the Palisade even further.
