Since 2021, spy photographers have been looking at the next-generation BMW X1. So far, the new crossover has been spotted along public roads, in parking lots, and on ice. This time, the crossover went to Nurburging for a shakedown.

The X1 doing laps on the track appears to be a non-M Performance version. The lack of four exhausts at the rear seems to confirm this. It also doesn’t look like an electric iX1. There are no ports on this car, indicating that it is not a plug-in hybrid. What we’re seeing is probably the standard refueled version.
But as before, the X1 sported production-ready headlights and taillights. The photos won’t tell us much about the handling of the redesigned X1. However, additional data from testing should make the crossover drive better. Since the third-generation X1 will use the Mini platform (BMW’s UKL architecture), it should be a decent steering wheel.
We create a crossover look under camouflage. It seems that BMW will take a cautious approach to the all-new X1. As with most BMW models, the grille is more prominent than before, but it won’t have the ‘sharp tooth’ look similar to the XM performance crossover. The future X1 will likely have vertical angled air intakes and dashing headlights. It can also grow a few inches for the next generation. For reference, the current X1 measures 174.8 inches (4,439 mm), 71.7 inches (1,821 mm) wide and 63.5 inches (1,612 mm) high.
There is no mention of the powertrain configuration yet. However, we can expect a range of mild hybrid diesel and gas turbo hybrids. But given BMW’s push towards electrification, a plug-in hybrid model is doable. That said, the electric M Performance 35i and iX1 models are pretty much confirmed.
