When Kia updated the Sportage for the 2023 model year, the automaker did more than update style. Kia is also giving the popular crossover a hybrid powertrain for the first time. Kia has already announced pricing for the non-hybrid Sportage, and we now have numbers for the hybrid.

The Kia Sportage Hybrid 2023 will start at $28,545 (all prices include a $1,255 destination fee). It gets one entry-level hybrid LX trim with front-wheel drive. An upgrade to all-wheel drive in the LX trim raises the price to $30,345. Kia offers the Sportage Hybrid in two more variants – EX and SX-Prestige. Both are available in all-wheel drive only and start at $32,245 and $37,445, respectively. The non-hybrid Sportage LX starts at $27,205, while all-wheel drive raises the starting price to $29,005.

Kia pairs a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a 44-kilowatt electric motor powered by a 1.5-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery. The combined total output is 226 horsepower (166 kilowatts), a marked jump over the non-hybrid base model Sportage. It produces 187 hp (138 kW) and 178 pound-feet (242 Newton-meters) of torque from its 2.5-liter four-cylinder.

Kia says the hybrid powertrain will allow the Sportage to drive more than 500 miles (800 kilometers) on a single tank of gas. The company says it aims for the crossover’s fuel economy to return to 39 miles per gallon. This crossover will also pull up to 2,000 pounds (907 kilograms).

The Sportage Hybrid is very similar to its non-hybrid stablemate on the inside, featuring a 12.3-inch infotainment screen next to a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless are standard. The Sportage’s eight active safety features include high beam assist, emergency braking, fixed lane assist with lane centering, and more.

The non-hybrid Kia Sportage is on sale now. Kia says the Sportage Hybrid went on sale this spring, and spring started a few weeks ago, so this stylish new crossover will soon hit dealerships. Kia will also offer the new Sportage with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. However, the company has not released pricing information for that model.
