2022 Ford GT Holman Moody Heritage Edition Honors 1966 Le Mans Sweep

There have been eight Ford GT Heritage Edition models since the iconic Blue Oval supercar arrived in 2005. The first came in 2006, bringing the famous blue and orange Bay livery to the first-generation car. The rest have graced the second generation GT, and now we come to number nine, the last in the series. Say hello to the 2022 Ford GT Holman Moody Heritage Edition.

Like previous legacy models, this one pays homage to GT40 racing history. Every auto enthusiast knows about Ford beating Ferrari at Le Mans in 1966, crossing the finish line in a 1-2-3 formation to sweep the podium. A lot of attention has been paid to Bruce McLaren and Ken Miles, who famously ended up side by side as part of the Shelby-America racing team. The MkII GT40 in third place was driven by Ronnie Bucknum with team Holman Moody, with a gold exterior with a flash of red up front. That’s the racing livery remade for this 2022 Ford GT, straight to the no. 5 roundels on the hood and doors.

“Of all the Ford GT Heritage Edition liveries we’ve created, the unmissable gold and red Holman Moody Heritage Edition theme is an epic tribute to our 1966 Le Mans finish,” said Ford GT Program Manager Mike Severson. “Inspired by one of the most famous Ford GT40 race cars, this new Ford GT honors the knowledge and ability of the Holman Moody racing team to innovate beyond global competitors.”

In addition to eye-catching colors, the Holman Moody Heritage Edition also features carbon fiber exposure in various locations. The 20-inch wheels are arguably the most notable, but you’ll find carbon fiber in the front splitter, engine grille, rear diffuser, side sills and mirrors. There’s more carbon fiber inside the door frames, console and registers. The rest of the interior is a standard edition Ford GT with lots of leather and Alcantara, though you’ll find a bit of gold trim as a reminder of its Holman Moody connections.

Ford will debut the 2022 GT Holman Moody Heritage Edition to the public at the 2022 New York Auto Show, joining the original 1966 Ford GT40 Mk II on which it is based. Production is said to be very limited – a number not yet on offer but every second-generation legacy Ford GT run so far has been 50 or less. Overall production of the Ford GT is expected to end in December with a total of 1,350 vehicles built.
