Another quarter over, another batch of zombie cars stubbornly appeared on the Stellantis sales chart. Indeed, the numbers come out and they show some vehicles refuse to die, making them the equivalent of the Pagani Zonda. There are no Jeep Patriots or Chrysler 300s in Q1 2022, but one person bought a Dodge Dart while two others bought the equivalent from Chrysler, the compact 200 sedan.
How old are these cars? Well, the last Dart produced in Illinois at the Belvidere Assembly Plant was from September 2016. The Chrysler 200 is nearly that old, having left the assembly line at the Sterling Heights plant in December 2016. We shouldn’t be in a rush to buy a car that’s been gathering dust for years. almost six years, but maybe the attractive discount is worth the risk.

But wait, there’s more. A deeper look into the numbers reveals another dead-but-still-alive car. We’re specifically talking about Fiat as the 500 and 500L generated sales for the first three months of the year, respectively. The cute city car and its equivalent minivan left the United States after the 2020 model year when the electric 500e also said goodbye to the US. The Italian Miata, Fiat’s 124 Spider, was discontinued for 2021, but five people bought it in 2022.
One Alfa Romeo 4C is on sale in equal intervals, but it’s not clear if it’s the Coupe or the Spider. The former was discontinued in 2018 while the latter retired in 2020. Speaking of sports cars, we are a little disappointed that the Dodge Viper has not generated any sales so far this year. However, it’s a bit odd that this model is still listed in the Q1 2022 sales chart where we are reminded two were sold in the same quarter last year. Another big “0” is next to the Chrysler Town & Country minivan.
Overall, the North American side of Stellantis sold a total of 405,221 cars in the first quarter of the year, representing a 14% decline. All models are down compared to Q1 2021, except for the Jeep Compass (+22 percent) and Grand Cherokee (+36 percent). The newcomer Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer posted 7,055 and 3,169 sales, respectively.
