Hyundai and Kia usually reveal their models at home in South Korea before showing them to the rest of the world. That’s not always the case as models like the equivalent Palisade and Telluride usually get updates in North America ahead of other regions. The biggest SUV the two brands have sold in the United States has been around for three years and will bring their facelift next week at the New York Auto Show.
Less than 24 hours after Hyundai previewed the Palisade 2023, Kia is now doing the same with the Telluride 2023. As the spy shot has revealed, the three-row SUV will get redesigned headlights with a different signature LED for the daytime running lights. consists of two vertical lines running parallel. The dark exterior image doesn’t reflect the existing trim levels as we saw the tough X-Pro coming with a mid-cycle refresh.
The Telluride X-Pro is only a matter of time given Kia trademarked the suffix for large SUVs (and the Sorento) at the end of last year, hinting at an expansion of the X-Pro lineup beyond the Sportage. In the case of a compact crossover, the X-Pro is equipped with standard AWD and all-terrain tires. Additionally, the smaller model has a selectable multi-terrain driving mode with snow settings.
More significant changes will occur inside the cabin where another teaser released by Kia shows the Telluride 2023 switching to a side-by-side display for the Sorento and Sportage. That must be the case because the cabin of the flagship SUV is starting to look a bit outdated with the infotainment system installed. The dashboard still has the three central air vents, but some of the physical controls underneath may have been “swallowed” by the touchscreen.
Both the updated Telluride and Palisade will premiere April 13 at the NY Auto Show before going on sale in the coming months for the 2023 model year. Meanwhile, Kia is still selling the body-on-frame Borrego in its domestic market where a formidable SUV is called the Mohave. It’s the same 2008 vehicle under the skin, but a massive facelift.
