Hyundai previewed the Ioniq 6 in 2020 with the Prophecy Concept. Since then, the production car captured by our spy photographer has revealed that it will retain the overall style of the concept, though we’ll find out for sure soon enough. Hyundai design boss SangYup Lee told Autocar that the new EV will debut in the next few months.
He didn’t give a specific date, although recent rumors suggest the model will be on sale for the 2023 model year, so the disclosure should be closed. The new EV will be Hyundai’s second, pairing with the Ioniq 5 crossover launched for the 2022 model year in the US. The new EV will share more than the Hyundai badge.

Both EVs use Hyundai’s E-GMP platform, and both should share the same 77.4 kilowatt-hour battery, at least in the US. A report from last year alleged that Hyundai had delayed the launch of the Ioniq 5 so the company could fit into the larger 77.4-kWh battery. The Ioniq 5 offers a smaller 72.6 kWh battery in other markets, and we expect Hyundai to provide a variety of packaging sizes for the Ioniq 6.
We don’t have official specs, but one leak suggests that the top model can hit 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in 5.2 seconds. That’s with a car that packs a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive configuration. There will likely be an underpowered single-motor model, though fans should keep an eye on the potential high-performance N variant.
The platform can provide a range of more than 311 miles (500 kilometers), but it’s unclear how much will be available on the Ioniq 6. The car’s sleek shape and low drag coefficient will help with range.
The interior design remains a mystery, but spy videos reveal some of it. Models in select markets will offer a side-view camera integrated into the dashboard, but don’t expect one on the US model. The Ioniq 6 will likely adopt the dual-screen dashboard layout seen in the crossover.

We can only guess when Hyundai will reveal its new model. However, Lee also said the company had signed off on the design. It has been done for a while. Hopefully, that means debut is imminent. Either way, the wait shouldn’t be long now.
