Ford Wants You To Play ‘Escape Room’ Inside A Mustang Mach-E

Ford announced that they are developing a new concept that lets you play the ‘Escape Room’ inside the Mustang Mach-E. Much like popular interactive games, Ford wants vehicle passengers to solve clues and follow instructions to complete missions.

The Mustang Mach-E ‘Escape Room’ concept uses in-vehicle technology features. The gameplay allows the Mustang crossover to control certain parts of the vehicle – such as the air conditioner, speakers, and electric seats – to enhance the immersive gameplay element.

While it’s still a concept at the moment, Blue Oval gives us a preview via a short video embedded at the top of this page.

As you can see in the demo, the spy-themed game wants its inhabitants to complete missions. Beyond the puzzle, the task is to deliver the package in the case, with instructions given through the infotainment system. The game is installed on an iOS device that communicates with the vehicle using Apple’s CarPlay and internally developed hardware and software.

As a safety net, none of the features outside of the heater and speakers are controlled if the electric crossover is in motion. Plus, the ‘player’ can exit the vehicle at any time without losing, unlike the base game.

“It’s a bit of fun that has a serious side, because it shows what’s possible with the technology we have in today’s cars,” explains Carsten Starke, interior materials & customer experience technical expert, Ford Research & Advanced Engineering, Ford of Europe. “Having the ability to create interaction between the vehicle and the driver could open up new ways to explore other possibilities in the future, such as interactive owner manuals or even driver training.”

However, don’t look for games on your Mustang Mach-E. Ford says it’s still a purely working concept at this point. It was developed to show how people can get to know vehicle features through games.
