In December last year, Mercedes-Maybach made waves with its Project Maybach concept, designed by renowned fashion designer Virgil Abloh. Abloh died in November 2021 after being diagnosed with cardiac angiosarcoma in 2019. However, his legacy and craftsmanship will forever live on with the new Mercedes-Maybach S680.

This vehicle is the culmination of a collaboration between artistic director Louis Vuitton and the German luxury automotive brand. Unlike the Project Maybach, which is a show car with a very extravagant overall design and concept, the new Maybach designed by Virgil Abloh is a production model that will be sold in the United States. It is based on the Maybach S-Class S 680 2023 with a planned production of only 39 units for the American market.

For the appearance of the luxury sedan, this fashion expert took Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer of Mercedes-Benz, to outline the basic design concept. The vehicle was completed in 2021, before Abloh died prematurely in November. This project was realized by the customization and workmanship team at Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing in Sindelfingen.

The exterior of the Maybach S-Class by Virgil Abloh featuring a unique two-tone color scheme with the main color beige and contrasting black on the roof, hood, hood and pillars. The signature 20-inch Maybach alloy wheels are also clad in the same beige color and while that might seem like an odd idea, we have to admit that the rims look absolutely gorgeous. It’s the same color combination seen on Project Maybach a few months ago.

The interior follows the same color scheme with subtle beige leather for the seats, door panels, armrests and underside of the dashboard. From the center screen above, almost everything is wrapped in black leather. Talking about the display on the center console, Mercedes-Maybach says it now runs a personalized user interface, which is a “more upscale” variation of the automaker’s MBUX system.

As a reminder, the Maybach S680 is powered by a 6.0-liter V12 engine that produces a peak output of 604 horsepower (450 kilowatts). This power is enough for a luxury limousine to reach 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) from a standstill in 4.5 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph (250 kph).
