Although the Fiat Multipla never made it to the US, the MPV became famous here thanks to its unique and controversial design. It also gained popularity (or fame) because it was a meme on wheels from day one. Just take a look at contemporary reviews and see what we mean.
Fiat recalled the Multipla in 2010, but cars have remained the cutest for some content creators. This year is no different since starring AutoTopNLlatest video for April Fool’s joke. So, what did the channel do to the tall hatchback? They took it for a high-speed run, of course.
But why film Multipla to run the Autobahn? Based on AutoTopNL, this is a one-off version of the people carrier. Ferrari and Lamborghini are “good friends,” according to the channel, combining resources to create this “bespoke” Lamborghini Multipla Super Veloce.
The “Multipla SV” comes with some aerodynamic assistance to keep it on the road. At the front are a pair of canards for extra downforce, while the wide rear wing sits above the tailgate. He even wore a tribute to the Oro Elios, Lamborghini’s signature color.
Jokes aside, the Multipla used in the video won’t set any speed records. In this case, the Fiat has a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 102 horsepower (76 kilowatts) and 107 pound-feet (145 Newton-meters) of torque. Factory figures claim a top speed of 170 km/h (105 mph).
The Multipla “Lambo” struggles to get close to the top speeds the manufacturer claims. Maybe engine fatigue, bad weather, or some other factor, but the MPV doesn’t hit 100 mph. The best it does on the unrestricted stretch of the Autobahn is 140 km/h, which is around 87 mph.
Still, it’s funny to see a little Fiat try to go fast on the Autobahn. It might not be fast, but at least the people from AutoTopNL make it entertaining.
