Cadillac Working On Small Electric Crossover To Slot Below Lyriq

Cadillac is currently developing a small battery electric crossover that will be placed under the All-New Lyriq in the lineup.

A photo of the upcoming crossover was revealed to Cadillac dealers during a recent nationwide meeting, according to a report by Automotive News. Dealers received this crossover, which is similar in size to the current Cadillac XT4. The unnamed electric model won’t replace the XT4 directly, but it will be sold alongside it, at least for now.

While there are no details on the technical specifications of the upcoming crossover, we do know that it will drive a smaller version of Cadillac’s BEV3 platform, which currently powers the Lyriq, and will likely have a driving range similar to that of the larger Lyriq, capable of cover approximately 300 miles on a single charge in the rear-wheel-drive single-motor configuration. The Lyriq makes 340 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque in that configuration.

It’s currently unclear whether this upcoming Cadillac crossover will feature – like the Lyriq – a rear-mounted single Ultium Drive motor, resulting in a rear-wheel drive configuration, but that’s entirely possible. Dual motor models with all-wheel drive are quite possible.

Last year, Cadillac trademarked various names for its upcoming EV lineup, including Ascendiq, Vistiq, Lumistiq and Optiq. All of these names conform to luxury brand naming conventions with the “IQ” suffix, applied to EVs, such as the Lyriq and Celestiq, the last of which is Cadillac’s upcoming flagship electric sedan. While not officially confirmed, Cadillac’s upcoming small electric crossover could carry one of these names.

At a meeting with dealers, Cadillac also indicated that it would be “watching” demand for internal combustion-powered models during the transition to an all-electric lineup in 2030. While the EV deadline is approaching, Cadillac is still showing interest in bringing new ICE models to the table, as evidenced by the Cadillac XT3 prototype caught testing by Cadillac Society earlier this month.
