Mercedes has a rich portfolio of different models, and the company often offers several variants of each. The GLC is no different, with next-generation models so far in development that we’ve been pushing prototypes. Recent spy photos have captured the crossover without camouflage, but we only caught a glimpse of it. The new spy shots aren’t as revealing as the GLC is still wearing its full camouflage wrap as it completes more winter testing.
Mercedes will offer the new GLC in various performance trims when it arrives, such as the extra-hot AMG GLC 63. However, to guarantee every potential customer is reached, Mercedes will continue to offer a lower AMG variant – the AMG GLC 43. It is unclear if the model will retain the 43 name or pass to the 45 or 53.

The new photos capture the sports car’s quad exhaust pipe, but it’s not AMG’s trademark trapezoid. It is reserved for top models. Instead, the AMG GLC 43 has four round exhausts poking through the rear diffuser. The car doesn’t have giant AMG brakes, but they are bigger than those on the standard GLC.
The camouflage on this test vehicle hides the design of the GLC, but cannot hide its size, which is larger than the previous model. Mercedes extended its wheelbase by 0.6 inches, which leads to increased headroom and rear seat legroom. Recent photos of Mercedes peel back the swirling camouflage, but the company continues to hide the styling details.
The GLC will arrive with either a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged or a 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine, although both will be paired with a 48-volt mild hybrid system. The GLC will follow the C-Class by adopting a four-cylinder powertrain lineup, meaning the AMG variant will use a four-pot engine as well. However, while the AMG GLC 63 can produce 600 horsepower (447 kilowatts), the lesser AMG GLC 43 will pump out more than 400 hp (294 kW). It will also offer six cylinders.
Mercedes already let us drive it, so debut is imminent. The reveal is slated to occur before the end of 2022, with the new crossover on sale in 2023. It’s not clear which variant and configuration we’ll get, but we expect Mercedes to want to keep it at the top of its sales charts.
