In the BMW world, beginner level take on a slightly different meaning. In Manhart’s larger-than-life world, such a level didn’t even exist. Technically, this is a BMW 1 Series and as such, it is the smallest of them all. But if you call this creepy hot hatchback entry-level, we suspect it’ll kick your ass, attack your fridge, and run away with your significant other. In that order.
What we have here is actually called the Manhart MH1 350. It’s the BMW M135i xDrive at its heart, which is already a solid hot hatch with 306 horsepower (228 kilowatts) thanks to a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. The Germany-based tuning company added a carbon intake to the mix, along with downpipes and a full exhaust upgrade for better breathing. The new control unit brings all systems into sync, and the result is 350 hp (261 kW) of the four-pot achievement.

The extra power is complemented by H&R Springs’ 1.1-inch suspension drop. The 20-inch Manhart GTS wheels wear 235/30 series tires, which hit the ground through the built-in xDrive all-wheel-drive system. Brake upgrades are available if the buyer wishes, complementing the mechanical upgrades from Manhart.
On the visual side, of course no bodykit After all, this is a Manhart, and for the MH1 350, it includes a beefy rear diffuser with a prominent front spoiler. Among them, you will find side skirts that further enhance the bottom look of this 1 Series. A roof spoiler completes the look of the hot hatchback, and all – and we mean it everything – Get a healthy glossy black finish.
You’ll find complete darkness on the wheel inserts, grille, mirrors, almost all trim, even the exhaust liner. Wide dark gray side stripes with light red stripes offer a touch of contrast in a profile look; the stripe combo is duplicated in an offset position on the hood. Silver trim is visible around the vents on the front fascia, while the Manhart badge just above the grille stands out as an oasis of color in a sea of black. Inside, the interior is untouched except for a special mat.
Manhart doesn’t offer a price for its MH1 350, and it’s definitely not available in the United States because we didn’t get the Series 1. But for the folks across the pond, this could be the dark lord of the hot hatchback you’ve been waiting for.
