Alfa Romeo recently added another member to its lineup in the form of the Tonale SUV, but is already talking about adding to the lineup in the future. In an interview with the Netherlands auto weekAlfa Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato confirmed that a larger model is coming, which will rival the BMW X5, X6, and 7 Series.

This means the upcoming model will be positioned above the Stelvio and Guilia in Alfa Romeo’s current lineup. For the record, this isn’t the first time the Imparato has talked about an additional SUV in its lineup. However, this is the first mention of the larger model.

In an interview last year, Imparato mentioned that a smaller SUV to go under the Tonale will arrive as part of five new models to be added in 2026. The subcompact crossover will arrive in 2024.

The decision to offer a larger model is no surprise. In auto week In the interview, Imparato mentioned something about going for the most profitable segment in the world, hinting that the new, larger model is aimed at the high-yielding segment. He also added that China was in his sights, which is not surprising given the insatiable demand for large vehicles in emerging markets.

Imparato didn’t mention any concrete information about the upcoming larger Alfa Romeo model, but it has provided an important detail: the timeline. In the same interview, he said that we can expect the above-mentioned model to arrive in 2027.

Whether the larger Alfa Romeo will be a pure ICE or electric is still a mystery at this point. But given Stellantis’ plans to have 100 percent of its sales in Europe go electric by 2030, we can expect these vehicles to be electrified at least.
