The Toyota GR Corolla will finally debut on March 31. The automaker will stream the opening at 9:30 p.m. EDT (1:30 GMT on April 1). Toyota released a short teaser video and two pictures along with this announcement to build more excitement for the hot hatch.
One of the teaser photos appears to show the front fender of the GR Corolla. There is a tall outlet with a horizontal black stripe that appears to be right behind the wheel. Directing air from the nose through this passage can help cool the brakes. The GR badge is easily visible next to this aero assist.

Another photo appears to be a side sill under a door. It has “GR-FOUR” embossed into the panels. This refers to the advanced all-wheel-drive system that Toyota also uses on the GR Yaris.
One of the earliest teasers for the GR Corolla revealed some specs about the model. It uses a 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder G16E-GTS engine that also powers the GR Yaris. This power station produces 268 horsepower (200 kilowatts), which is produced by the GR Yaris in Japan, compared to 257 hp (192 kW) in Europe.
Another teaser shows the GR Corolla with a manual gearbox. Toyota also has a prototype GR Yaris that uses an eight-speed automatic. A rumor suggests that this transmission might eventually be available in the Corolla hot hatch. There is no indication whether this gearbox will be available at launch.
Toyota recently hid a teaser for the GR Corolla in a video promoting the GR86. The advertising plot is that rigid executives react to the tone of the GR team. There’s a shot of the Supra and the GR86 driving together, and one of the bosses commented there should be a third vehicle in the frame. It cut into the back of the hot hatch that was in the dark shop.
All the info available so far suggests that the GR Corolla will come exclusively as a hatchback. There are no pictures or even rumors to suggest that a sedan variant is on the way.
