If you have traced the Aston Martin portfolio, you may recall that three years ago the Vanquish name was removed. At the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, these peeps from Gaydon carried the concept of a mid-engine engine that was positioned below the Valhalla and Valkyrie. Earlier this year, the company’s CEO Tobias Moers told us that “entry-level” supercars are still going on. However, it won’t hit the streets until 2025.
People in Autocar have learned more about the new baby supercar from Aston Martin. As previously reported, Vanquish will avoid the in-house V6 that was originally planned in favor of AMG power. Specifically, it will switch to Affalterbach’s twin-turbo V8 installed in the larger high-performance German model.

The combustion engine will not be alone as it will be part of a plug-in hybrid setup. While the hotter Valhalla gets a V8 from the AMG GT Black Series, the Vanquish will sport a lower configuration than the AMG GT 63 SE Performance. The ICE itself is said to produce around 630 hp in the new Aston Martin but powered by an electric motor, the total output should be 831 hp.
Going down the PHEV route means the new Vanquish will catch up with the Ferrari 296 GTB and McLaren Artura. By switching from the proprietary 3.0-liter V6 to a third-party sourced V8, Aston Martin has the right job for it as it needs to overhaul the supercar to support a larger combustion engine. While there’s a bump in size for the ICE, it should still weigh less than 1,500 kilograms (3,306 pounds) using a carbon fiber tub.
The road-going supercar will spawn a track-only equivalent as the hardcore version aimed at the one-make global racing series. When Vanquish did arrive, it probably wouldn’t be like this. In contrast, company chairman Lawrence Stroll said Autocar The supercar will likely adopt the new moniker. British journalists claim the new model will be a “very different proposition” compared to the Vanquish Vision concept.
The official disclosure is slated to take place in the second half of next year, with customer deliveries slated for 2025.
