Custom Flatbed Caravan Makes For A Cool Off-Grid Rig For Your Truck

Off-grid adventures are growing in popularity, not only in the US but around the world. In fact, we’ve seen a lot of motorhomes manufactured in Europe – most, if not all, as good as those made in the states.

The off-grid rigs we feature are not from North America or the Old Continent. Caravan Conversionan India-based company, has introduced a product that American truck lovers are sure to love – a custom flatbed caravan that can fit into any pickup truck.

The example you see here is the Mahindra Bolero, which is an SUV sold in India and other parts of the world. It was converted into a pickup. The custom-built caravan was then slapped in the back, turning the SUV into an off-road capable motorhome.

The caravan measures 6x6x6 feet (1.82 meters), attached to the flatbed via bolts and pins. The company doesn’t mention the material used for the shell, although we can confirm it’s not heavy as the Bolero is not a powerful SUV. Fortunately, the size is flexible as the company offers customization depending on the base truck.

On the outside, the product looks like your typical caravan. The cassette A/C protrudes at the top plus there’s a 300 watt solar panel to power your off-grid adventures. There is a slide-and-drop ladder as well for easy entry and exit.

In the, Caravan Conversion supports all-weather insulation, along with fire-resistant cables, battery-operated lights, and charging sockets. There is also a fully equipped kitchen, with dual countertop burners and a double compressor refrigerator. The sink comes with hot and cold water, plus some storage space. The bathroom, although small, has a portable 21 liter toilet and handheld shower, also with cold and hot water.

For sleeping, the caravan can actually accommodate four people – two on a cab-over bed and two on a sofa bed which is quite well kept.
