Mercedes-Benz has come a long way since adopting autonomous driving technology in 2015. Mercedes-Benz has already received approval for testing on public roads, plus the company aims to bring the SAE Level 3 Advanced Driver Assistance System on US soil by the end of the year. year.

But AMG did, and released a video (embedded above) that shows us how far driverless technology has come so far.

The video above is a bit long, but we pinned it on the timestamp when the AMG GT 63 S 4-Door Coupe did a hot lap without any input from the driver. The car accelerates, brakes in corners, and follows a predetermined race line for “hot laps”, although it’s important to note that it’s only limited to 106 miles per hour (170 kilometers per hour). It was absolutely insane and a bit odd, to be honest, reaching high speeds without human intervention.
Of course, all we see are prototypes – at least for now. In fact, right before stints with two people in the front seat, AMG showed a clip in which the car did a hot lap without a soul in it.
