The owner of a red Chevy Silverado caught on video earlier this week being swayed by a tornado got a new pickup. On its official Facebook page, Chevrolet posted that they are donating the new 2022 Silverado to the Leon family. Sixteen year old Riley Leon was behind the wheel, heading for a job interview, when a tornado caught his pickup and threw it everywhere.
Working with Bruce Lowrie Chevrolet in Fort Worth, Texas, Chevy is delivering the 2022 Silverado LT All-Star Edition family in Cherry Red. Chevy will present the pickup to the family tomorrow, March 26, at the dealership.
“We are grateful that Riley survived, commend his driving skills in this terrifying situation, and our hearts are with the other families in Texas affected by this hurricane,” Chevy wrote. Chevy also donated $50,000 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to assist recovery efforts in Texas.
The video of the meeting (above) circulating on the web is astounding to watch. It caught a tornado passing through Elgin, Texas, as it crossed the road, engulfing a large red pickup as sparks shot out of a faulty power line. The truck disappeared in the chaos, but appeared by his side. It spun once before the tornado flipped it back onto its wheels.
The video doesn’t reveal the extent of the damage, but it looks like the side window was broken. We hope the truck is also scratched, but not damaged enough to stop it from moving away from the incident.
Riley told KHOU11 that she knew the weather would be bad that day, but she had to attend a job interview at Whataburger. Riley didn’t realize his meeting had been videotaped until he got home, and his brother showed him the video. Riley said he was upset about his truck, which he had saved up to buy from his father, although that wouldn’t be a problem tomorrow. That’s a good thing too, because he started his new job at Whataburger on Monday.
