What’s better than catching a prototype of the future Porsche 911 on the public road? Capture their entire fleet! Spy crews stationed in Europe have been busy following Porsche, as evidenced by a new batch of nearly 40,911 photos. We have the facelifted 911 Carrera, 911 Cabriolet, and 911 Hybrid from every angle, each offering a taste of the future for the 992 series.
We start in the cold north, where winter has officially turned to spring. Temperatures rose, leaving the prototype 911 covered in dirt instead of snow. As seen earlier, we can see a revision to the front bumper of the 911 with a small vertical bar on the lower intake. The sports car’s daytime running lights will also have a new design, which is why this prototype has a large round placeholder headlight affixed to the fascia. At the rear, street dirt serves as effective camouflage in addition to more black bands, hiding smaller details on the fascia and taillight integration.
It’s impossible to miss the new center-exit exhaust. Rumors persist that Porsche will replace the turbocharged engine for the Carrera, opting instead for the naturally aspirated flat-six used in the 718 Cayman GTS. The exhaust is thought to be an indication of that, but a recent report cites Porsche 911 boss Frank-Steffen Walliser. no, blank spot. However, our spy source has an anonymous tipster who insists that is still the case. It will be a smaller derivative of the Cayman mill, but will be naturally aspirated. True or not, we’ll have to wait until the reveal to know for sure.

Meanwhile, Nürburging is open for business after the winter months and Porsche is making the most of it. The prototype caught circling the track is one we’ve seen before, and we’re pretty sure it’s the new 911 Hybrid. An electric 911 isn’t a rumor at this point – Porsche officials have confirmed its arrival – but it won’t be a plug-in version. The 911 Hybrid will carry a small battery for the electric motor that complements the flat-six, borrowing technology from the 919 Hybrid race car.
We should have some answers later this year. The debut could occur in the second half of 2022 for the 2023 model year.
