Mercedes-AMG C63 Wagon, Sedan Spied Squealing Tires At Nurburgring

Spy shots from just over a month ago caught the Mercedes-AMG C63 sedan and wagon out testing with less camouflage than before. Mercedes has kept a few covers to hide important styling changes at the front and rear, and a new spy video that captures testing of both variants at the Nurburgring suggests the company isn’t ready to dig into much more.

Two videos, which record the car on the track and the road around it, show the driver pushing both models hard. There was squeaking tires and a rumbling from the exhaust of the car, which would no longer have eight cylinders blaring behind it. The next AMG C63 will have a hybrid powertrain.

Mercedes has chosen to forgo the V8 for a 2.0-liter four-cylinder hybrid. It will use an electric turbocharger and an electric motor, which will drive the wheels. The new setup is expected to produce as much as 600 horsepower (447 kilowatts). That’s a lot of power, but the powertrain means the model will only come with a nine-speed automatic gearbox. There will be no manuals.

Camouflage hides the car’s finer details, but the distinctive, aggressive face and quad exhaust provide the car’s AMG foundation. The car uses a Panamericana AMG grille with vertical slats, which also mimics the lower grille opening.

The new Mercedes will get an interior that is in line with other recent debuts, most notably the S-Class, which already has interiors that have proliferated across the Mercedes lineup. The car will feature a digital display on the dashboard for the instrument cluster with the larger screen positioned lower on the instrument panel to serve as the car’s infotainment centre. It is a stylish place that should be equipped with the latest technology and creature comforts.

Mercedes has not said when it will introduce the new AMG C63. We expect Mercedes to start by introducing the less powerful AMG C53 before launching the AMG C63 near the end of the year. The latest spy shots and videos show Mercedes making progress in its development, with the car now sporting production lights.
