SAIC-GM, Cadillac’s China joint venture, launched a new variant of the Cadillac XT5 featuring an all-wheel-drive system specially designed for the Asian country, which now represents Cadillac’s largest market by sales volume.
The Cadillac XT5 uses a new chassis called Hummingbird, which aims to meet the needs of Chinese buyers by increasing the comfort that the luxury crossover provides. The Hummingbird chassis combines a next-generation AWD system with an adaptive suspension purposely designed to handle Chinese roads.
The intelligent all-wheel-drive drivetrain scans driving conditions hundreds of times per second, and the dual-clutch configuration can split zero to 100 percent of available torque between the two wheels mounted on the rear axle, providing dynamic power distribution based on conditions. Meanwhile, the intelligent suspension scans the environment around 500 times per second and adjusts the damping force based on wheel vibration. This combination not only helps the Cadillac XT5 achieve a better level of grip, but also does a better job of keeping the body stable on uneven roads.
Three trim levels are available with the Cadillac XT5 Hummingbird chassis, including Deluxe AWD, Premium AWD and Platinum AWD. The XT5 also gets a new wheel design as well as an updated color palette.
The Cadillac XT5 Hummingbird is powered by a turbocharged 2.0L I4 engine (production code LSY) as standard, which produces 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The boosted four are mated to a 48 volt mild hybrid system.
Assembly for the Chinese market of the XT5 takes place at the Cadillac Jinquiao factory in China. The price range of the XT5 for the Chinese market is as follows:
- Stylish AWD: 352,700 Yuan (approximately $52,600 at current exchange rates)
