2023 MINI 3-Door Shown In Sweden Alongside Its Predecessors

The loveable mini will transition to the fifth generation for 2023, and in the meantime, the BMW-owned company has brought a prototype to Sweden. The camouflaged test vehicle represents the fully electric model that was combined in Lapland by its four predecessors to imply a growth spurt. Again, the three-door body style will be the first to come out, and there’s still a combustion engine option.

Dressed in Mini’s signature yellow camo, the prototype was taken to the BMW Group’s winter test center in Swedish Lapland for evaluation in sub-freezing temperatures. In addition to the snow-covered roads, there is a purpose-built area on the frozen lake where test vehicles undergo various procedures. The main goal was to perfect the chassis and steering before starting series production.

Mini assures fans of the British brand that the next-generation car will retain the go-kart feel while those who need a more practical car will get the much larger Countryman. Indeed, the crossover will develop into a fully fledged compact car as it will be built in Leipzig, Germany alongside its sister model, the BMW X1 2023.

Interestingly, a “crossover model concept study for the premium small car segment” will be launched this year. It’s likely that Mini isn’t referring to the Countryman as it uses the word “compact” to describe its largest vehicle. We think the company is talking about a separate model, possibly the rumored Paceman (or Aceman?).

For now, Mini has remained tight-lipped about the next-generation 3-Door model. However, car had the opportunity to use a development prototype and the British magazine confirmed that the leaked image was legit. We can learn that cars will get wider tracks, longer wheelbases, and bigger wheels.

Inside, it will take the Strip concept with a “more is more” approach featuring a large rounded look. The touchscreen is not only for infotainment but for most of the climate control while acting as a digital driver display as well. Behind the steering wheel, there is now only a heads-up display. You still get some physical controls, located below the big screen, for quick access to choosing between driving modes and an on/off switch.

British journalists claim the new Mini 3-Door is a little quieter than before and has a less bouncy suspension. Improved electric power steering is on the menu, as is a next-generation traction control system that works faster and reduces understeer.

Despite being teased today, the new Mini won’t go on sale until the second half of 2023.
