The Toyota Supra is back for the 2020 model year, and Toyota has wasted no time bringing it to the races. Toyota is also launching the GR Supra GT4 in 2020, with sales for track-only cars reaching 50 by the end of 2021. Toyota will add at least six more to that number with the new Toyota GR Supra GT4 50 Edition that adds some special features over the standard car. .

Each Toyota GR Supra GT4 50 Edition receives a special red exterior with gold livery. Inside, the driver gets a new racing seat that comes with brand embroidery. Toyota has also added a passenger seat as standard equipment. The car also gets unique 50 Edition branding inside and a numbered plaque affixed to the car’s raw carbon fiber dashboard. Race cars are also equipped with indoor car covers for transportation.

The race car gets its power from the same turbocharged 3.0-liter engine as the BMW, producing 424 horsepower (311 kilowatts). It transmits rear wheel power via an automatic transmission. Prices remain unchanged for the Toyota GR Supra GT4 50 Edition.

The car looks like a street version on the outside, despite sporting large wings and a chin spoiler. It has a steel body. The side windows show track-only ambition, though it’s the interior that really reveals this isn’t your standard Supra. Toyota gutted the interior, removing the dashboard for a full-fledged carbon fiber unit that lacked the comfort of the road version. It also uses a high-strength roll cage.

Since its introduction, the Toyota GR Supra GT4 has participated in more than 250 races, delivering 36 class wins and 78 podiums. Toyota says it will continue development and production of the GR Supra GT4 while continuing to offer support for future owners.

It’s unlikely that future will include a manual gearbox, even as rumors say the model will receive such a gearbox for the 2023 model year. We don’t know much about the Supra’s future, but we expect more to come from the company.
