When we first saw it a year ago, the new three-door Mini tried to trick us with its camouflage. The cover makes it appear that the new Mini will retain its round taillights, but images leaked late last year allegedly revealed an all-electric version with a unique taillight design. New spy shots show the hold continues to wear a dishonest cover, but the new yellow camouflage makes the hatch lines – and taillights – easily visible.
The hatch splits the taillight cover in half, revealing its shape, which is true to the leaked image. The hatch line was much harder to see in the previous spy shots. The new photos show the car wearing a full camouflage wrapper, hiding a familiar-looking design, though there could be a few surprises underneath. At the front, the Mini still features round headlights with a simple look.

We haven’t seen the entirety of the inside of the new Mini yet, but a teaser image can’t hide everything from curious eyes. The large screen on the dashboard is clearly visible in many of those images, and the new shot shows the digital instrument cluster. A circular display mounted on a closed dashboard. Mini’s plans to revamp the exterior also come with interior changes. Mini announced last year that its next-generation models will lead the way with their interiors, which likely means smoother materials – but not leather – and the latest technology.
There has been no indication from Mini about the car’s powertrain. The new Mini EV, which looks set to be smaller than its gas-powered sibling, doesn’t have much room for a bulky battery pack. However, improvements in technology should give the new model more range than what it currently offers, which is 114 miles (183 kilometers).
The new electric three-door mini will also spawn a five-door variant alongside the brand’s gas and diesel models. There will be a convertible and hotter version of John Cooper Works. Mini hasn’t announced a debut date for its next-generation electric vehicle yet, but a new model is slated to hit the market in 2023. The company has big plans to switch to an all-electric brand by 2030, and it’s not going that far. To the future.
