Mercedes isn’t quite ready to give the CLA a full redesign but instead is offering a slight facelift to please fans of the four-door compact. Along with that comes a new electrified powertrain. The 2024 model gets a 48-volt hybrid system to help with acceleration. At the lower end of the rev range, this adds an extra 13 horsepower boost. During braking and acceleration, the starter-generator recovers energy, which is then used to supply electrical energy to the onboard 12-volt network and 48-volt hybrid system. The system appears to work similarly to the hybrid system in the Mercedes-AMG SL43, which uses a belt-driven starter generator to increase horsepower at lower rpm.
The look of the CLA is updated on the front and rear, though the changes are minimal. The front fascia gets a new shape, and the radiator grille swaps its old mottled design for a Mercedes star design. The biggest visual change is the redesigned headlights and taillights, which lower the lower part of the daytime running lights. There are two new color options: Hyper Blue, which is exclusive to the CLA model, and Starling Blue. Three new wheel designs also join the lineup.
Inside the CLA, standard displays have expanded, with a 10.3-inch instrument cluster and 10.3-inch touchscreen, both running the latest MBUX infotainment system. One of its features is the choice of three display styles: the fully informative Classic, the Sporty version with a dynamic tachometer, and the minimalistic Discreet settings. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto have both been added, and there’s a new trim level, with a choice of carbon, open pore wood, or AMG-exclusive brown microfiber options. Stepping up to the AMG line brings a number of interior trim options from three, to five, adding a two-tone color scheme to the mix.
The standard safety system has also been updated, providing customers with parking assistance and a mirror package. Mercedes hasn’t given any word on pricing but said they expect the CLA model to arrive in US dealerships in 2023.
