The Maserati Grecale is almost here. If it feels like Maserati’s teaser campaign has lasted a long time, it’s because it has – in automotive terms. September 10, 2020 is when the Italian brand officially announced the small crossover. Now, a year and a half later, we have a short video that will to be the last Greek seducer of them all.
Like a recent row of teasers, this clip offers a glimpse of a specific area with a non-specific description of the feature. In this example, we see a Maserati fender vent with a Trofeo badge. It was the top-range model in the Levante lineup, so logic suggests it would serve as a Grecale flagship as well. The non-specific section comes with a bold “to try my * drive mode”. How many driving modes are there? The obvious answers are several, but like the previous teaser which promised **screenshots in it, we’re left to speculate.
The guessing game is coming to an end. Expected to be placed under Levante, the new Grecale shares its platform with Alfa Romeo Stelvio but will carve out its own identity for the Maserati universe. We’ll likely see some similarities between the two crossovers, especially at lower trim levels where the Stelvio’s 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine is expected to serve the base model’s duties. That makes 280 horsepower (209 kilowatts) in the Alfa, and there’s little reason to expect that to change much for the Grecale. In this case, we also hear a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 engine could be an option, producing over 500 hp (373 kW).
Very interesting rumors suggest that the Grecale could pack something a little more powerful in its main performance trim. The Maserati MC20 uses a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine that produces 621 hp (462 kW), and if it ends up in the Grecale Trofeo, it could be a legitimate contender among today’s crop of high-performance crossovers and SUVs. However, at this point, it was just a rumor.

In Maserati’s defence, the original intention was not to tease Grecale for 18 months. It was supposed to debut in November 2021, but the disruptive global pandemic and constant supply chain disruptions changed everything.
