In a comparison between a race track and a drag race, logic tells us that the former is more dangerous than the latter. Full circuits require more precision in handling and techniques honed over the years, while straight-line racing relies heavily on driver reaction time and engine capability.
However, if you think that drag racing is harmless, you are wrong and we have the video to prove it. As you can see in the snippet embedded above, courtesy of YouTube Turnpike Racing Leaguetwo Audi R8 coupes (one black, one white) line up on the drag strip for a signature drag race.
As the race started, it was clear that the black one seemed unstable. Midway through the sprint, the driver of the black R8 lost control and stumbled, ending up crashing head-on into the drag strip wall.
The impact of the crash was enormous and you could see debris flying through the air. To say that the Audi driver was shaken after the crash is an understatement. You can see the supercar is still sliding forward after bouncing off the impact.
We’re not sure if the driver is okay after the horrific crash. One of the commenters on the video said that he was there when the accident happened. The broadcaster allegedly said that the driver was fine, only suffering from bruises from the incident.
Let this be a vivid reminder that no matter what type of racing you enter, it is still motorsport. This means danger is part of the deal.
That said, drag races should not be held on public roads. This is a safety risk that can endanger other road users, who are innocently trying to reach their destination.
