In a study conducted by the team at AutoPacific, we can see how much confidence consumers have in major automotive brands with the development of safe and reliable fully autonomous vehicles. Based on data compiled by AutoPacific, Tesla is the most trusted organization in autonomous car technology by far when compared to other automakers.
To capture the current level of consumer confidence in automotive brands as they develop fully self-driving car technology, AutoPacific interviewed 600 licensed drivers across the United States. Respondents ranged in age from 18 to 91 years with an average age of 43 years. According to AutoPacific, 9% live in suburban areas, 27% urban/urban, and 24% rural.
Based on data compiled by AutoPacific, 32% of respondents trust Tesla to develop safe and reliable fully autonomous vehicles. Followed by Toyota with 19% and BMW with 18%. Chevy and Ford round out the top five with ratings of 16% and 14%, respectively. In sixth place, we have Apple as the only technology company to reach the top ten list.
Apple is an exciting addition to the ten most trusted brands for building fully autonomous vehicles considering they’ve never built a car before. In the survey, 13% of respondents chose Apple to build trust-worthy fully autonomous vehicles, which puts technology companies ahead of automakers such as Honda, Audi, Subaru, and Cadillac.
When it comes to fully autonomous vehicles, the younger generation is much more supportive of efforts to bring technology to market. According to AutoPacific, “22% of young shoppers aged 30 to 39 want AV as soon as possible followed by 14% of shoppers aged 18 to 29.” Excitement for autonomous vehicles is starting to decline with the older generation as only 3% of respondents over the age of 60 want fully autonomous cars as soon as possible.
As the journey towards the first fully autonomous vehicles continues, it’s clear that based on the data, young people are placing their stake in newcomers to the market like Tesla. The Tesla brand is built by pushing the boundaries of auto technology that puts it at the forefront of consumers’ minds.
