Opting for the 3.0-liter diesel in the Jeep Gladiator meant making a few sacrifices: giving up 25 horsepower, paying the extra $4650, and giving up the possibility of getting a manual transmission. And the diesel isn’t nearly as fast, thanks to the extra 500 pounds of weight. However, the diesel-powered Gladiator puts out 442 pound-feet of torque, making the engine much happier than its 3.6-liter gas counterpart when asked to do truck stuff. Like, you know, pushing a truck. Maybe the EcoDiesel Gladiator isn’t any quicker, but it sure feels like it, and its casual power matches that of a Jeep pickup.
