Mercedes-AMG put out buckets of silver paint for a very limited, special edition SL63 roadster called the “Motorsport Collectors Edition.” Mercedes-AMG plans to run the roadster with just 100 units globally, which takes inspiration from the 2022 W13 E Performance Formula 1 car, driven by British racing duo Lewis Hamilton and George Russell.
After two seasons of running the black paint livery, the company returned to the historic Silver Arrows livery. The 2022 season saw the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 team struggle to rise to the same level of success as has been the norm in recent years. It managed to produce a third-place finish, with enough points to end the season well ahead of fourth-place Alpine and nearly enough points to claim second place from Ferrari.
Much like the race cars that inspired it, this limited edition roadster features a two-tone paint finish, which graduates from high-tech silver metallic to obsidian black metallic on the rear of the car. The SL63 also features blue Petronas accents along the front apron, side panels and rear diffuser. As a special touch, Mercedes-AMG added a Mercedes star pattern to the rear of the car in a nod to the engine cowling of Formula 1 cars.
AMG added a sensational Aerodynamics package, adding larger touches to the front and rear aprons, a larger rear diffuser, and a redesigned underbody to improve aerodynamics. The AMG Night package adds gloss black to the front splitter, side sills, mirror caps and rear diffuser decorative trim. Its twin, the AMG Night II package, adds black chrome for the typography and a Mercedes star at the rear, along with a radiator grille.
Mercedes hasn’t released pricing information yet, but a fun fact: AMG-tailored indoor car covers come with every car. That should allay fears of being too high a price.
