The second generation of the Cadillac CT6 big luxury sedan enters, and Cadillac Society have details.
The first report on second generation CT6 was published in early 2019 by our sister publication, GM Authority. However, the global COVID-19 pandemic threw a wrench in luxury sedan development, pushing back its launch timeline. Here are some important details about the new model.

The upcoming second-generation CT6 will use Cadillac’s VSS-R platform, which facilitates rear-wheel drive based vehicles. We expect the CT6 to feature the luxury marque’s 2.0L I4 turbocharged engine (production code LSY), which is currently offered in every Cadillac model sold in China. It’s also possible that the second-generation CT6 could use a mild hybrid system – such as the XT4 crossover for the Chinese market, which combines a reinforced four-cylinder internal combustion engine with a small electric motor and battery for better fuel economy. .
The second-generation CT6 will also use Cadillac’s Global B electric architecture, which will allow the luxury sedan to take advantage of the Super Cruise and eventually the Ultra Cruise. The Global B platform will also enable over-the-air software updates.
Sources tell us that the exterior of the Cadillac CT6 will be roughly the same size as the current first-generation model, and some styling elements will carry over. However, there will also be some important changes. The front will sport the luxury trademark vertical lightning bolt with horizontal elements, as seen on the updated fascia of the first-generation model. However, the second generation CT6 will take this cue to the next level by adding more detail to the lights, especially the horizontal elements.
The second-generation model will also eschew the current model’s boxy design for a slimmer profile by extending the greenhouse to the rear. The cab will extend slightly further beyond the rear doors and tilt slowly toward the rear of the vehicle, similar to the treatment on the CT5.
Additionally, sources tell us that the new Cadillac CT6 will have a roof that starts to slope towards the center of the rear doors as opposed to maintaining the more traditional profile of the current generation model. The C-pillar will also be slimmer than the current model, resulting in a larger rear vanity window. Dual exhaust outlets will also be implemented at the rear of the vehicle, following design instructions from the CT4 and CT5.
Sources tell us to expect the second-generation Cadillac CT6 to launch sometime in the next 12 months for the Chinese market. Production will take place at Cadillac China’s Jinqiao plant in Shanghai. At this time, it’s unclear whether the second-generation Cadillac CT6 will be offered in North America, where the first-generation model was discontinued after the 2020 model year.
