Summary
There’s no shortage of performance SUVs available today, and the same can be said of crossovers with coupe-like rooflines. The 2023 Mercedes-AMG GLC43 Coupe offers both attributes: performance and fastback looks. Starting with the previous generation GLC-class platform, AMG engineers used an athletic suspension and a 385-hp twin-turbo V-6 engine that gave the crossover a slick and sporty look. It’s fast, but not quite as powerful as its main rival, the BMW X4 M. Still, the GLC43 offers a road-loving personality, a luxurious cabin filled with tech features, and enough power to dust off your neighbors when they pull up beside him. next red light on the standard GLC300.
What’s New for 2023?
The GLC43 Coupe carries over to 2023 unchanged, but we expect it to be the final model year for this generation, as the standard Benz-branded GLC-class SUV has been redesigned for 2023.
Price and Which One to Buy
Normally we’d recommend the high-powered GLC63 S model, but since that model has been discontinued, we’d be happy to recommend the GLC43 instead. Its turbocharged V-6 still makes it an attractive car. Beyond the AMG-specific performance bits, the GLC43 Coupe has a long list of standard features, such as LED headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, a power liftgate and a nearly all-digital dashboard. It is also equipped with a wide range of driver assistance features, including blind spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.
Engine, Transmission and Performance
The GLC43’s powertrain is a 385-hp snarling twin-turbo V-6 with a nine-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. That The V-6 provides more than enough muscle for daily use and be a good companion for resolute drivers. In our most recent test, it hit 60 mph in just 4.2 seconds. Other competitors in this segment include Porsche Macan GTSthat Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglioand BMW X4 M, each of which uses a V-6 that generates more power and provides faster acceleration. The AMG GLC Coupe rides on air suspension with adjustable damping, stops with authority thanks to solid brakes, sticks to pavement almost like a sports sedan, and handles a lot better than you’d think from a tall SUV body.
Real World Fuel and MPG Savings
According to the EPA, the GLC43 Coupe produces 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. To us 200 mile highway fuel-efficient circle, the GLC43 Coupe manages 26 mpg. For more information on the fuel economy of the GLC class, visit EPA website.
Interior, Comfort and Cargo
The AMG CLC offers the luxury and comfort you expect from a Mercedes. The seating surface is supportive, and the front bucket is highly adjustable. High-quality materials abound, and the center console features a modern-looking 10.3-inch touchscreen display. One downside to the Coupe styling is the sloping roofline digging into the passenger compartment. People in the front seats have plenty of headroom, but second-row passengers might find it a bit claustrophobic up top. Cargo space suffers too, as the Coupe offers 18 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and 49 cubic feet aft in the front. Those two numbers lag behind storage space in the X4 M, which are 19 and 51 cubic feet, respectively. And compared to the GLC squareback, which accommodates seven carry-on cases behind the second row, the Coupe only holds five.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The GLC’s MBUX infotainment system is featured on a dashboard-mounted touchscreen that spans 10.3 inches, and there’s a bit of a learning curve to operate it easily. If you’d rather not take advantage of its touchscreen capabilities, you can try the touch-sensitive pads near the center armrest or steering wheel controls. A six-speaker audio system is standard on the GLC43, as is SiriusXM satellite radio and Bluetooth connectivity. A 13-speaker Burmester stereo system is optional. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration also comes as standard.
