The 2017 Cadillac DPi-VR won the Best Performance Award at the 2022 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance.
This particular racer was selected as Best In Show in the Concours de Sport category, a bracket specially provided for racing cars. The DPi-VR certainly saw a lot of action on track before being handed over to its current owner, Wayne Jackson. Initially, this race car was fielded by Wayne Taylor Racing in the IMSA WeatherTech series, where it claimed important victories at the 2018 Petit Le Mans and the 2019 Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona.
Under the hood, this flawless DPi-VR sports a race-ready, naturally aspirated 5.5L V8 engine made by Earnhardt Childress Racing Engines. Eight atmospheres produce 600 horsepower, and the vehicle rides the Chassis P217 developed by Dallara. Over the years, the Cadillac DPi-VR was piloted by a number of talented racers such as Jordan Taylor, Ricky Taylor, Renger van der Zande, Ryan Briscoe, Kamui Koboyashi and Fernando Alonso, among others.
Jackson purchased the prototype in 2021, struck a deal with the race team to purchase the race car after retiring at the end of the 2022 racing season. However, Wayne Taylor Racing suddenly switched to an Acura ARX-05 prototype in 2021, abandoned his racing venture with Cadillac, and The DPi-VR was delivered to Jackson earlier than expected.
The Cadillac DPi-VR prototype race car will set out after the 2022 IMSA season. It will be replaced by the upcoming Cadillac Project GTP prototype race car, which will debut when the 2023 racing season begins. The Project GTP engine is currently being developed by Cadillac Racing and Design in collaboration with race car manufacturer Dallara, and will be the first Cadillac to compete at the Le Mans 24 Hours in more than two decades.
