The 2022 GMC Hummer EV looks like it’s going to be an amazing electric vehicle with 9,000 pound mountain goat off-road capabilities and brick-shaped hypercar performance. How General Motors got here is a question we hope the recently announced documentary “Revolution: GMC Hummer EV” will answer.
60 minutes — no, about 40 minutes with commercials — will air on the History channel on Sunday, March 27 at 11:00 a.m. EST. Why so early? That’s when the DRIVE block of automotive-themed events runs down the cable channel.

Interested in watching this documentary? What’s most interesting about the story of the Hummer EV is that it went from soup to pea in about two years, which is half the average new vehicle. GM says the documentary will show us dynamic on-site testing of the Hummer EV in the freezing climate of UP Michigan and the heat of Moab, Utah, and inside heavily guarded facilities like the GM Design Center and the company’s testing grounds.
The story of GM’s electric vehicle development has so far been one of the competing stories. On the one hand, you have an optimistic account of the impressive long-range EV lineup that started with the Hummer EV and will be followed by the Cadillac Lyriq and Chevy Silverado EV. On the other hand, there have been failures regarding the recall of the Chevy Bolt over a potential battery fire and the obvious fact that this giant automaker sold a total of 26 electric vehicles in Q4 2021 here in the United States.
Since GM paid for this documentary, it will most likely follow the previous narrative and not the last. And it’s true that if GM’s impressive investment in the future of electric vehicles pays off, the company will be sitting pretty well in the new EV era.
