While not as many new cars find homes in 2022 as in previous years thanks to declining production, supply chain issues and a dire economy, our Buyer’s Guide page still provides a place for millions of you to research and decide on your next vehicle. And there’s a distinct trend: You’re passionate about electricity! Among the 10 most researched vehicles in our buyer’s guide are four EVs and one offered as a hybrid. It seems your taste in body style hasn’t changed much, as all but three are either trucks or SUVs. But there’s hope in the end: Two cars are specifically designed to satisfy enthusiastic drivers, and we count ourselves among that number. So we guess that means there’s something here for everyone. Here are the 10 most purchased vehicles Car and Driver’s Buyer’s Guide for 2022:

Kicking off our list in 10th place is one of our favorite off-roaders, the Ford Bronco. When Ford unveiled the new Bronco in 2021, the number of orders was overwhelming, many of which were difficult to fill as the company experienced supply chain issues that delayed the SUV’s launch. That doesn’t diminish your appetite for Broncos, and Ford has been happy to roll out new trims and special editions since then, including the Everglades model pictured here, complete with snorkel and winch.

A regular on our Top 10 list since its introduction in 2018, the Kia Telluride is receiving a handsome—albeit mild—facelift for 2023. First shown at the New York auto show in April, the restyled Telluride has received even more attention, sitting at number nine on our top 10 list. The Telluride is one of our favorite SUVs because of its round and smooth shape. Practical, comfortable, luxurious and packed with value. Give one a try and we think you’ll agree.

2023 Honda Civic Type R

Not all SUVs and EVs are on this list, after all, as in seventh place is the all-new 2023 Honda Civic Type R. This beast delighted us when it debuted earlier this year, and it disappointed us during our tests. track, where it sprints to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds. This iconic nameplate is matched by the more refined Civic hatchback this time around, and we’re excited to spend more time with it in the new year.

Toyota Corolla Cross 2022

What? The two Corollas on this list and neither of them are actually Corollas? Yes. Toyota unveiled the pug-looking Corolla Cross for the 2022 model year, and interest has been high since then though it hasn’t impressed our editors much. On our test track, this buzzy little SUV took 9.2 seconds to reach 60 mph. At least it’s cute. However, good news is in sight, as Toyota has announced a more powerful hybrid option coming for 2023, which also comes standard with all-wheel drive.

The Honda CR-V might be one of the less thrilling options on this list, but it’s no less relevant as one of the top-selling SUVs in the United States. Honda redesigned the CR-V for the 2023 model year, and the handsome new sheet metal and heavier focus on the hybrid powertrain seem to have many of you thinking about upgrading. The CR-V’s Buyer’s Guide page is usually quite a popular destination for buyers, but now that Honda has released an updated version, the SUV manages to take fifth place on our top 10 list.

Here’s another one for the fans. We see you there, dropping by on this consumer-focused Buyer’s Guide page. We don’t blame you at all. Since its announcement, we’ve been obsessed with learning everything we can about the 2023 Toyota GR Corolla. I mean, check it out: an aggressively styled Corolla that promises performance that beats the Golf R. What’s not to love? Not much, apparently, as it is the fourth most researched car of 2022.

2024 Volkswagen ID. Buzz

Volkswagen’s protracted reboot of the 1960s Microbus as ID.Buzz 2024 has everyone feeling nostalgic. VW has been teasing us with this sequel for a decade or so, giving people plenty of time to anticipate it. So it’s no surprise to us that the ID.Buzz was the third most purchased car on our site this year. We ended up driving it in Europe, and we learned that the US version would be a long-wheelbase model with more room for people and cargo. But the wait is still not over; ID.Buzz won’t be selling here until late 2023 or early 2024.

The cool, retro electric SUV Ioniq 5 wowed us in our annual EV of the Year competition—won it—and blew you away as the second most bought vehicle of 2022. Our all-wheel-drive model tested reaching 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and provides more driving satisfaction than expected. The biggest draw, however, is the high-tech 800 volt architecture, which allows for very fast charging at common DC charging stations. In our test, the Ioniq 5’s battery charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes.

Rivian, a spunky California upstart, almost single-handedly started an EV-pickup-truck contest. Sure, the R1T pickup truck isn’t the first to hit the market, but it’s definitely the one to beat. This powerhouse of technology and performance jumps to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds on our test track and proves itself adept at towing, even if that stint quickly eats up its driving distance. Apparently you’re as impressed as we are, as the R1T was the most researched vehicle on our site in 2022.
