The new Chevy LT6 V8 engine is in a league of its own. In fact, the new LT6 doesn’t share a single part with Chevy’s other V8 engines which makes it an anomaly in GM’s lineup. GM’s V8 has a rich history of parts sharing that counts as it allows the brand to amortize development costs and perfect old designs. When it comes to the Corvette C8 Z06’s LT6 V8, however, nothing in the current lineup does quite well.
For starters, let’s get to the fact that we love all the Chevy LT and LS V8 engines that have been staples in the fan community for decades. These reliable, compact, and powerful engines fit into the engine bay of some of GM’s finest products from Trucks to sports sedans. When Chevy unveiled the new mid-engine Corvette C8, many fans were hoping for a high-revving V8 for the track-focused Z06 model and the boys Chevy gave it.
The LT6 V8 engine is a naturally aspirated 5.5 liter dual-overhead-cam V8 engine that produces 670 horsepower (500 Kilowatts) and 460 lb-ft (624 Newton Meters) of torque. This powerful flat-crank V8 cranks up to 8,600rpm worthy of an exotic supercar. This incredible engine was born on the racetrack thanks to the extensive testing that powers the Corvette C8.R race car.
To achieve this level of outrageous supercar performance, Chevy ditched its traditional playbook and started working on a clean engine design. The result is one of the most impressive naturally aspirated V8 engines ever built. The C8 Corvette Z06 continues the Vette tradition of offering the level of supercar performance in a more affordable package. This time, however, the new C8 Z06 promises to be better than nearly all of its European competitors.
