With the Taycan becoming a huge commercial success, combustion engine enthusiasts had feared the Panamera would suffer the same fate as the Tigers. Porsche is expected to sell sporty crossovers and completely different electric versions for a few years before giving the ICE model the proverbial ax. Instead of updating the current Panamera as it did with the Macan, a peek from Zuffenhausen is working on the next generation of cars.
It was seen a few weeks ago as a camouflage prototype that looked very familiar, but Autocar believe there are some changes behind it. Codenamed “972,” the performance liftback is said to get a more powerful 2.9-liter V6 petrol engine and a more powerful 4.0-liter V8 with mild hybrid technology. Speaking of electrification, the PHEV model will use the same “highly revised” powertrain as the next Cayenne.

All “E-Hybrid” models planned for the third-generation Panamera will benefit from an updated engine and electric motor. This PHEV will also have a larger battery pack to provide “further” range with the combustion engine turned off. Additionally, British magazines have good authority that the updated Panamera gets upgraded software to allow for faster fill rates.
Each and every variant is said to pack more punch, while details about interior tweaks are shrouded in mystery. As is usually the case with luxury car makers, Porsche will probably find a way to cram more technology into the Panamera 2024, with reports suggesting infotainment will receive 5G support.
Don’t expect to see a revamped model anytime soon Autocar believe it won’t be officially introduced until Q3 2023, with sales set to begin later that year or early 2024. Hopefully, the Sport Turismo wagon will live to see another generation.
