Gordon Murray T.33 Debuts With 607 HP And ‘Everyday Usability’

The follow-up to the fantastic T.50 from Gordon Murray Automotive is officially here. The T.33 isn’t nearly as hardcore as its sibling, but with a 607-horsepower (453-kilowatt) 3.9-liter V12 turning the rear wheels in a 2,400-pound supercar, hardcore is a relative term here.

Let’s get straight to the core of the T.33, which is a tweaked version of the same Cosworth-sourced V12 engine used in the T.50. It’s not quite as high at T.33, but we’re still talking about an 11,100-rpm redline. Peak power arrives at 10,500 suborbital revs, with peak torque of 333 pound-feet (451 Newton-meters) arriving at 9,500 rpm. GMA says 75 percent of that torque is available at 2,500 rpm, so you don’t have to sing soprano for a leisurely cruise around town. Compared to the 12,100-rpm limit on the T.50, the T.33 is a bit more comfortable at lower revs but make no mistake – it’s still a very tense engine.

Power only flows to the rear wheels via a six-speed transmission, and manual enthusiasts rejoice! The standard gearbox will be a proper three-pedal stick-shift, with a six-speed paddle-shift transmission available as an option. GMA says the Xtrac paddle-shift box is the world’s lightest supercar gearbox at 172 pounds, and the fastest shift. The engine is also light at 392 pounds, and with everything bolted into a carbon fiber monocoque chassis that heavily uses aluminum, the T.33 has a better power-to-weight ratio than the mighty McLaren F1.

GMA doesn’t share performance stats, but it’s safe to assume this car is fast. It should also handle pretty well, as great attention is paid to the T.33’s aerodynamics. You won’t find the T.50 smart fan at the rear, but the ground effect inlet at the front sends air under the car efficiently to the diffuser at the rear. Its clean form is such that most wings and other vents are not required, although you will find an active rear spoiler that spreads out automatically at speed, or manually at the command of the driver. Staggered wheels measuring 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear wear Michelin 4S tires.

Going inside, you will find a simple greenhouse that does not have a touch screen at all. The minimalist approach is dedicated to the driver’s focus, although you’ll still find a nice mix of premium materials like aluminum and carbon fiber. The analog rpm gauge takes center stage in front of the driver, and equipped with a standard manual transmission, the T.33 is the analog car of the digital age.

However, it’s not completely featureless, as you’ll find Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on-board. There’s also nearly 10 cubic feet of total storage space, and with an estimated 400-mile range on the fuel tank, the T.33 could be a fun grand touring machine for two.

It will also be an expensive mid-engine GT. Prices start at £1.37 million, which is currently equivalent to $1.8 million in US currency. GMA did say the T.33 will be available in global markets with a left or right drive, and the company is currently receiving inquiries from interested buyers.
