Our latest look at the new Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe provides a two-taste look at the upcoming grand tourer. Our spies guessed that it was the GT 53 and GT 63 variants.
The camouflage on the front of both vehicles is the same. The only noticeable difference is that the car we think is a GT 53 has a yellow roof, and the GT 63 has a white roof.

Along the sides, the GT 53 has wheels with five pairs of spokes. The one on the GT 63 is black and has five sets of Y-shaped spokes. Both have large brake discs and gold calipers.
At the rear, the GT 53 has a pair of circular exhaust outlets on each side of the diffuser. The GT 63 swaps these pipes for a trapezoidal finish. Otherwise, the designs of the two models are identical.
The AMG GT Coupe shares the platform with the new SL-Class. Mercedes’ head of design, Gorden Wagener told Roads & Trails last year that the company is preparing to differentiate the two models. This developed the SL into a roadster for comfortable and luxurious cruises. The GT Coupe fills the role of buyers looking for a sportier way of driving.
The AMG GT Coupe will likely weigh less than the new SL because it uses a fixed roof, rather than a roadster-powered soft top. We don’t have photos of the interior yet, but rumors suggest the coupe is a pure two-seater, not a convertible 2+2 layout. This change will bring you down a few more pounds.
Under the hood, it is expected that the GT Coupe will offer a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. In the SL, this power plant is available in 469-horsepower (350 kilowatts) and 577-hp (430-kW) tones. Spy shots tell us that Mercedes is developing a plug-in hybrid version of the SL, and maybe this could be an option in the coupe too. The output of this variant can reach 800 hp (597 kW).
We expect the GT Coupe to debut sometime this year. However, Mercedes has not leaked the exact time for the premiere.
