Mazda RX-7 Barn Find Gets First Wash And Detail In 23 Years

To date, the RX-7 is perhaps the most recognizable Mazda vehicle ever made. This third-generation sports car was produced between 1992 and 2002 and was one of the most inspiring mass-produced machines of the 1990s. Mazda is now producing new parts and components for those looking to restore an old RX-7, but if you can find a low-mileage original, this is certainly the better option. We can’t think of a better preserved example than shown in the video above.

This nearly 30 minute clip is from WD details active channel YouTube and showed us a 1994 RX-7 that had been sitting in a garage since 1999. The story of this car is very interesting and we are delighted to see that it has received the attention a detailing specialist deserves. The owner of the car bought it new but was terrified of how powerful and fast it would be and traveled about 8,800 miles before putting it in the garage. Everything is completely original and requires great detail washing and detailing.

The procedure you will see in the video is nothing out of the ordinary. It all starts with pressure washing of the exterior, followed by more detailed washes with special chemicals, clay stick procedures, and full paint restoration and polishing. The interior received the same level of attention and some sections were even dismantled for better access to the dirtier zones.

Results? Well, this could be one of the shiniest RX-7s we’ve ever seen and it’s actually pretty much in tune. Don’t worry about rusty brake discs – as soon as the car is moving and the brakes are applied, the rust will be gone. We’d love to hear from you – how much does this RX-7 with 8,800 real miles cost now? We don’t know if it will go on sale soon but we doubt the owner will start driving it now after more than two decades sitting in the garage.
