Ferrari must have seen pictures of the Purosangue straight from the factory floor have surfaced, but the major leak had no consequence on Maranello’s modus operandi. The first SUV to carry the Prancing Horse has been spotted in northern Europe in full camouflage, giving the prototype an extraordinary boxy shape. However, as I know, the vehicle hidden behind its disguise is not a modern Breadvan 250 GT SWB.
The prototype that our spies caught has some of the largest exhaust tips we’ve ever seen. This won’t be your run-of-the-mill SUV as the ground clearance isn’t much higher than that of a regular car. So much so that the Purosangue looks like a large hatchback, which is probably a good thing. The test driver seemed to be having a bit of fun that day as the vehicle can be seen in a few spy shots that show its tail-loving nature.

Ferrari 250 GT SWB Breadvan
The “Hyper hatchback” as we like to call it will be a new model riding on a different front mid-engined platform which was developed from the ground up. With properly serviceable rear seats, air suspension, all-wheel drive and hybrid power, the Purosangue will not be your typical Ferrari. We can’t help but wonder if there’s enough room in the engine bay for a majestic V12 or an SUV that will rely solely on V6 and V8 engines.
An indirect replacement for the FF and GTC4Lusso, the “Ferrari Utility Vehicle” will be late for the Super SUV party. Even so, it has all the ingredients to easily become the best-selling product the company has ever seen, as the Lamborghini Urus continues to top the sales charts of Sant’Agata Bolognese. Traditionalists would argue that high-volume vehicles are not necessarily a good thing as they reduce the prestige of a company, but it’s 2022 and business is business.

The famous Italian marque has promised the Purosangue will be the most attractive SUV to drive in its segment and will use a dual clutch automatic transmission. “Revolutionary accessibility and cutting-edge comfort” have been promised, along with “highest power output plus electric motor” for the hybrid setup.
Despite looking like a Maserati Levante in the early days of testing, the Purosangue will be an all-Ferrari product. It is expected to offer a PHEV system with a much longer range than the 296 GTB and SF90 with their tiny batteries.
Ferrari have confirmed the Purosangue will go into production in 2022, so look out for a world premiere that will take place in the coming months. However, the first deliveries to customers will not be made until later in 2023.
