We saw the sportier version of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 for the first time in September last year, when the model prototype was spotted licking the Nurburgring. Zero-emission engine performance is now back in a series of new spy shots, showing us a nearly production-ready test car with funky camouflage.
Obviously, nothing here fully confirms that this is indeed the Ioniq 5 N, although there are some signs that would lead us to think that way. First, larger low-profile tires are mounted on black twin-spoke five-spoke wheels. We could be wrong, but the brakes also seem a little bigger than the standard model.

Next, the height of the trip. This prototype sits lower to the ground and in combination with the larger wheels it has a much sportier stance. Last but not least, there is a “Never drive” label on the camouflage. Also, the disguise mimics a checkered flag under some of the corners and there are small fender flares attached to the wheel arches, which hide the true size of the wheels.
We don’t know for now but that camouflage might hide additional visual enhancements, such as a more aggressive bumper and an additional diffuser at the rear. But more importantly, the electric powertrain of the Ioniq 5 N is likely to get a big boost compared to the currently available variants.
Different sources suggest the performance EV could adopt the most powerful powertrain option of the sister model Kia EV6, which has 576 horsepower (430 kilowatts) on tap in the GT trim. Bear in mind that the platforms of the two cars are supposedly capable of handling up to 600 hp (447 kW), so a few more horses can be squeezed in to differentiate the Hyundai from its sibling Kia.
The South Korean company has not said whether an N version of the Ioniq 5 is in development and this could mean the performance electric vehicle could get a different ending.
