The auto market has gone crazy in recent months. Many different factors – including Covid-related supply and production disruptions – contribute to an unstable environment, which has a negative impact on new and used car prices. Overall, the five-year depreciation is close to record levels and it is clear there are models that lose value more than others over the five-year course.
iSeeCar has analyzed more than three million three- and five-year-old vehicles to see which cars depreciate the most and which have the best value. On average, a five-year-old vehicle is only 33.3 percent cheaper than its value from the MSRP. Interestingly, compared to last year’s data, this figure shows a 17 percent decrease in depreciation.
Perhaps it should come as no surprise that large, luxury cars and SUVs exhibited the highest depreciation in five years. Data from iSeeCar revealed that the BMW 7 Series lost the largest share of its value with a depreciation of 56.9 percent. Interestingly, the same model was the second worst performer in the agency’s 2017 report. The Maserati Ghibli came in second in this year’s report with 56.3 percent depreciation, while the Jaguar XF came in third with 54 percent depreciation.
