We can’t imagine someone looking at a dump truck and thinking hmm, that would be a cool place to live. Yet here we are, watching the full-time vanlife couple adventure across the country in a converted GMC C7500 that was once a dump truck and snowplow in Maryland. And like the video above from Small House Tour clearly shows, they’re not really roughing it.
Rae and Trevor are the duo behind this awesome black monster. Known as WazimuLife on various social platforms, they built this rig over several months with the aim of heading to Alaska. As such, there is a wood burning stove inside that serves as a backup for more conventional heating systems. Water storage and plumbing are also inside to keep things warm, and there’s no shortage of space.
In fact, this beefy GMC features a queen bed with a small wardrobe, a full bathroom with composting toilet and shower, and a large kitchen with a three burner stove. The fridge and freezer slide out from under the counter, and there’s a plush hanging chair to relax in. When not in Alaska, this custom camper is air conditioned and with 1,850 watts of solar power on its roof, can run as often as needed.
Campers can also go wherever needed. According to the video, it was converted to four-wheel drive and while the specs weren’t available, the ground clearance was plenty to say the least. Lighting is also plentiful with 44,500 lumens mounted above the cab. Two separate propane tanks in the outer storage compartment provide fuel for cooking and hot water.
If this rig isn’t big enough, Rae and Trevor also have a trailer they pull out. It doubles as a car garage, offering storage for motorcycles and a variety of tools including chainsaws, welding tools, tools, and more.
We’ve seen ambulance camper conversions, military truck camper conversions, and we’ll never forget the RV Sled Zeppelin monster made out of a cabover school bus. But this GMC has the distinction of being the first dump truck/snow plow conversion in Motor1.com’s digital space. And now, we’ll never look at dump trucks the same way again.
