Like it or not, the automotive industry is constantly changing. The days of the internal combustion engine seem to be numbered and we have a little over a decade to get used to the changes. Of course, the fact that no new combustion-powered cars will be on sale sometime in the mid-2030s doesn’t mean that there won’t be vehicles with good old ICEs on the road in the future.
However, their numbers will start to drop dramatically and the first to die, perhaps, will be the most boring and lackluster. Ex upper teeth host Richard Hammond has now started the process of killing the cars we don’t need and the first two victims are featured in his latest video to driving tribe channel.
This is actually a new show idea and driving tribe the team has worked hard to make it “the biggest project we have ever filmed.” The idea revolves around the fact that combustion-powered cars are slowly dying and the planet needs to stock only the best examples of all manufacturers. We don’t know what Hammond’s exact criteria are, but he says some vehicles are worth living for the next generation while others are not. He started natural selection with the following statement: “Mk1 Escort? Yes. Mk4 Guard? Not.”
More examples follow and, for reasons unknown, we find Hammond’s selection to be quite accurate and honest. Look, while there’s nothing wrong with the Peugeot 207 – it’s a fine little mainstream car – it definitely doesn’t have the charisma that the Peugeot 205 has. And in Hammond’s world, this means it needs to die and make room for more interesting cars to survive. “Chrisler Crossfire? No, not under any circumstances.”
With this great introduction, it’s time to say a few words about this new video actually about. Hammond wants to give those cars that don’t deserve to live a new life again and turn them into… garden accessories and supplies in the first episode of the new series. Yes, you read that right. It sounds weird, but if you have around 50 minutes to spend with Hammond and a bunch of talented mechanics, this video is definitely worth your time.
