What are you willing to sacrifice to achieve your goals? For Vincent Yu from Canada, he gave up his house, years of time, and finally his life partner.
The dream? To turn his Rolls-Royce Wraith into an electric vehicle, which he can accomplish as of this writing. Based on Richmond NewsYu has spent the last four years turning his luxury Rolls coupe into a luxury EV that requires no petrol to run.
It is not an easy task. He spent time flying to Japan, Germany, and the US many times to buy parts for the project. He also had to sell his house to help finance the conversion. This caused his wife to leave him when he was fed up with the project.
Yu is proud of his work. According to him, the Wraith can reach 311 miles (500 kilometers) on a single charge. He also mentioned that he only needs CAD 8 ($6.29) for electricity to charge his Wraith battery, which is significantly less than the CAD 120 ($94.39) he needs to fill his tank with gasoline.
Besides Wraith EV, Yu also opened a shop called Mars Power. He used everything he learned in the Wraith conversion project to turn another gasoline-powered car into an EV. The store is located in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada.
Yu added that his eldest daughter gave him the idea of changing his car. The girl came home from school one day and complained about her driving habits.
“You shouldn’t act like a rich person by driving stinky cars around the city and polluting the air,” her daughter said, according to Yu.
It was then that he started the conversion with the small team of mechanics and machinists he now employs in his new shop.
