2022 will go down in history as the year when AMG put a four-cylinder engine inside the C63. The same M139 unit aka the world’s most powerful factory four-cylinder that was incorporated into the series production car is also found under the hood of this prototype. We’re looking at the A45 facelift which was caught resting between two test sessions somewhere in northern Europe. It seems that the headlights are slimmer and the graphics are fresh for the taillights.
We’ve seen a more notable change on the inside where the touchpad for the infotainment system doesn’t work. It is likely that the facelifted version will indeed lose the additional way to control the MBUX as the car appears to have a production layout. The newly acquired storage area has also removed the buttons that were around the touchpad while the remaining controls have been moved to the front, right in front of the cupholder.
As for whether there will be any changes to the 2.0-liter petrol engine, we won’t count on it. That already makes 416 hp (310 kW) and a whopping 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque in the AMG A45 S. Yes, the C63 gets an electric turbocharger that is shared with the AMG One hypercar, but that’s very unlikely for a compact car. hyper hatch will benefit from this technology.
The four-pot is already more powerful than the larger 2.5 TFSI 2.5 inline-five unit of the new Audi RS3, so it hasn’t lost its power crown. Maybe a mild hybrid setup will come to curb emissions, but we don’t always count on that. If engineers plant to give the baby the 48V tech AMG model, it will come along with a temporary power boost as seen in the larger “53” model with their inline six engine.
Mercedes will revamp its entire A-Class lineup later this year and will not bring the sedan to the United States where the body style is being downgraded. The hatchback never launched in the United States, leaving the swoopy CLA as the only car alongside the GLA crossover for the 2023 model year.
