Volvo also did well with 10 IIHS-tested vehicles from the Top Safety Pick+ award-winning brand.
To receive the Top Safety Pick in 2022, a vehicle must earn a Good rating in all six IIHS crash eligibility tests. The model also needs to have a front crash prevention system available with an Advanced or Superior rating in vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluation. The available headlight options require a score of Good or Acceptable.
For the Top Safety Pick+, all of this is true. In addition, the vehicle’s standard headlights are required to obtain a Good or Acceptable score.
IIHS will introduce stricter award criteria for its testing starting in 2023. An updated side impact evaluation will be carried out at a higher speed and with a heavier barrier. To be awarded the Top Safety Pick, the vehicle must score Good or Acceptable. Good Rating will be required to get Top Safety Pick+
There will also be a new nighttime pedestrian accident prevention test. A vehicle needs to be rated Advanced or Superior to qualify for the Top Safety Pick+ award.
Lastly, vehicles will require standard headlights with a Good or Acceptable score to qualify for the Top Safety Pick.
